When you are visiting a country that ranks in the top ten of the safest countries in the world, you tend to become quite comfortable with your surroundings very quickly. This relaxation can prove to be a deadly force when out and about. Enter Slovenia’s most dangerous aspect, the dreaded bike lane. Unlike America, Slovenia has bike lanes on the sidewalk as opposed to the street. Biking is very common throughout the country and therefore can lead to a lot of bike traffic on the sidewalks. When walking in a big group of people it is hard to notice that you are oftentimes treading in the middle of the bike lane. Due to this unfortunate circumstance I know I don’t speak for just myself when I say that I have almost been in near fatal bike accidents with multiple locals due to a complete disregard of my surroundings. Moral of the story, always stay vigilant because you never know when a biker is coming around the corner at blistering speeds.
